Wedding Favors on a Tight Budget

wedding

Wedding favors do not need to be grand or expensive gestures and are really only given as a small gesture of thanks for joining you on your special day. In fact within most couples wedding planning favors will draw the short straw when it comes to provision for them in the budget.

However, wedding favors on a small budget are entirely possible and you can produce them for as little as $1 each, if you are particularly creative or a savvy shopper you could source them for even less than this.

Your first consideration needs to be on the type of favor you would like to give. With one eye on the budget, you will need to think about how a particular fits with your wedding style and/or theme; if it coordinates with your wedding colors and if it fits with your own style and personality (i.e. do you like it?). These factors alone will help you to eliminate a large percentage of wedding favors available on the market and leave you with a smaller selection from which to choose from.

There is a further consideration as well – packaging. This can be vital or merely window dressing. Candies for instance are better presented in a small box or bag, whilst candles can be presented without any form or packaging and with just the addition of some ribbon holding the thank you tag. When on a tight budget give very careful thought to you packaging, added decorations and labels, the cost of these can soon mount up pushing you way over your original budget.

So what can you expect to find in terms of wedding favors for a small budget? Well there are many options open to you. Buying ready made favors from a favor store, gift shop or supermarket will cost you more than making your own at home, although ready made versions give you back time and less stress! Typically, budget wedding favors will be:

  • Candles such as votives or tea lights

  • Candies

  • Chocolates, in particular candy coated versions

  • Mints

  • Mini soaps – although you may not be able to give more than two per favor

  • Fridge magnets

  • Flower seeds

If you were to make your own wedding favor at home, then depending on your creative abilities, there is an array of options open to you:

  • Potted plants

  • Scented sachets

  • Handmade chocolates

  • Homemade cookies or cupcakes

  • Recipe cards

  • CD’s of your wedding songs

  • Homemade preserves, chutneys or conserves

Essentially wedding favors are given as a token of gratitude and a small one at that. Most of your guests will expect to receive one but will not be too concerned by the contents, favors really are a case where it is the thought that counts!
